From MRI to anatomical simulation of the hip joint

چکیده
This paper describes a methodology for the simulation of musculoskeletal disorders. Our clinical study is related to osteoarthritis of the hip, a pathogenesis possibly due to impingements. These bone collisions lead to abnormal joint mechanics which is characterized by contact pressure and stress distribution upon the joint cartilages. The proposed methodology combines different approaches from modeling to simulation. The simulation is based on patient-specific anatomical models, where acquisition modalities are non invasive and flexible. Based on static MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) data, a discrete deformable models method is used for modeling the organs of the musculoskeletal system. Femoroacetabular movements are estimated using an optical motion capture system and are validated by a dynamic MRI analysis. To achieve accurate deformations, techniques to generate volumetric meshes are developed based

Introduction: Anthropometric studies provide valuable information in different populations. This study was conducted to evaluate the anatomical variations of the normal hip joint among Tehran population, Iran, in comparison with other populations. Methods: This study was carried out on hip joint of 260 patients in all ages and both genders referred to the Department of Radiology at Ebn-e Sina ...
متن کاملMagnetic Resonance Imaging Assessment of Hip Abductor after Total Hip Arthroplasty Using a Direct Lateral Approach
Background: Surgical techniques and rehabilitations after total hip arthroplasty (THA) play a significant role in theimprovement of pain and limping. This study aimed to assess hip abductor muscle’s diameter and its strength after 6months postoperative THA performed by Hardinge approach. Methods: After obtaining the patients’ demographic characteristics, the preoperative values...
متن کاملHip Joint Trevor Disease: Literature Review and a Case Report
Trevor disease or dysplasia epiphysealis hemimelica (DEH) is an extremely rare condition with incidence of about 1:1,000,000. Male to female ratio of reporting case is 3:1, and usually diagnosed between two and eight years old. It usually affects the medial portion of the joint, but lateral involvement is not uncommon. Hip-joint was affected in less than 4% of existing cases in the literature. ...
متن کاملMuscle moment and angle of hip, knee and ankle joints in a seven- link model of backpack sprayer operator
Background and Aim: Carriage of backpack sprayers is an inevitable part of agricultural operations that increases the risk of injury along with undesirable changes in walking mechanics. The purpose of this study is to formulate the muscle moment changes in the hip, knee and ankle for the backpack sprayer operator body. Methods: In this study, a seven-link sprayer operator model is designed and...
متن کاملAccurate Simulation of Hip Joint Range of Motion
This paper presents a hip joint motion simulation method using accurate hip joint center and hip range of motion. We calculate the extreme hip joint range of motion centered on the hip joint center (HJC) that is located by an automatic calculation algorithm on 3D reconstructed surface models. We make 3D bone surface models from CT (Computer Tomography) or MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). The m...
